I am running Vista right now as I type on the 2nd HDD. I took out the original HDD (XP install) from the system, put in the blank second one. Installed Vista.

I then took out the Vista HDD, put the original XP one back in, and put the Vista HDD in the ultrabay. On boot at the IBM prompt press F12 and you can choose which drive to boot from.

Simple!

do you think i can install the vista directly to the ultra bay without pull out the primary HDD?

Yes. At boot time press F1 to enter at Bios configuration. Play with Startup Options.

F5 and F6 move devices up and down, x activate and deactivate it.

I'm downloading also the RTM release of Vista in Spanish language. I wonder if it's possible to install Vista on a HDD via USB 2.0 in a enclosure case.

Yes, but it will mess up booting into Rescue and Recovery. Additionally it will put a boot menu on the main hard drive (at least this is the case with Vista beta 2 and Vista RC1).

The best way IMO is to remove the main hard drive with XP on it, put the hard drive you want Vista on in the ultra bay, then connect an external DVD drive and boot the Vista DVD from it. When you are finished installing Vista, put the main hard drive (XP drive) back in. Press F12 when you see the IBM/Lenovo splash screen and choose which drive to boot from. If you do not make a choice, the hard drive in the main drive bay is booted up.

If you do not have an external DVD drive, then put the hard drive you want Vista on in the main hard drive bay and when you are finished, then put the Vista hard drive in the ultra bay and the XP drive back in the main drive bay.

Essentially, just follow the instructions for putting BSD/Linux on the ultrabay HDD and much the same goes for Vista. Just make sure it knows that it is on the first device on the second IDE channel or you might have problems with it booting and operating normally.

I did just that.. I had the original XP load in the primary drive, had a spare drive in the hdd tray. During Vista load, it will ask where you wanted to install it, just pointed to the spare drive. Now when you power on, it will ask if you want to boot Vista or "previous version of windows"

That is the boot menu I was referring to previously. This messes up booting into Rescue and Recovery on your main hard drive.

In that case, remove your original XP hdd with the service partition and RnR, and replace that with the the blank hdd on which you want to install vista. Install as normal, and then put that vista hdd back in the ultrabay slim tray. Put your original XP hdd (the one that has RnR) back into your original hard drive tray, and F12 should work.
