T40p and Seagate harddrive

#1 Post by Oz » Mon Dec 04, 2006 12:21 pm

Hi,
I have been trying to install a Seagate 5400.3 Momentus 160GB drive
into a T40p and so far have not been able to see the drive as installed in
the BIOS if I put it in the primary drive bay. If I install it into the
slim drive bay I can see it in the BIOS and use it normally in WinXP. The
BIOS is version 3.21 and the IBM harddrive firmware update program, fwhd45,
says the Seagate's firmware does not need updating. The firmware program can
see the drive installed in the primary drive bay.
Does anyone have any ideas on this problem? Thanks.

Hey Oz,

The auto-detect won't show that it needs an update. You need to manually execute the syntax. There is a thread on here some where talking about it. I don't recall where. I ran into a similar issue with my Seagate 7200 100GB drive a few months back.

Hi, this problem seems to be a result of a mistake I made. Only one row of the drive pins was going into the connector maybe because of the thickness of the drive. Anyway I slid a piece of teflon under the drive while installing it and all is well now. It was recognized in the bios and I was able to use it normally. Thanks for the help.
