My T41 trackpad has gone faulty - left button not working

#1 Post by bunder » Sat Sep 04, 2004 11:49 am

quick question...

I have had my T41 for 4 months, now my left mouse button on the touchpad is not clicking, it is permantly stuck down compared to the right hand one which has a nice click action.

I lifted the key area a bit and can't see how I can get it back to how it should be.

Under the warranty, how will IBM deal with it. Will they send me a whole new touchpad area or should i send it back to them.

thanks

Leslie

The keyboard and palmrest are CRUs (customer replaceable units). They will send you a new keyboard or palmrest (the keyboard and the touchkeys are one piece and the palmrest and touchpad are one piece) to replace it yourself. Alternatively, if you are not able to do this, you can ship it to their service center for replacement. Me?..... I wouldn't let them near my computer and would replace it myself!

Well here's an update.

Turns out I have got onsite warranty which was really good news!

I called IBM late on Monday and they gave me a hardware report number and then said someone will call me on Tuesday. Which they did, took some more details and today they replaced the palmrest.

Palmrest is now fine and working well.

Just one thing, when they swapped the palmrest, there was no centrino and designed for XP stickers on it, so the repairman managed to lift them off the old one and put them on the new one.

cheers

Leslie

That's great news! As far as the labels are concerned, you could have had mine - the first thing I do is take them off and throw them away!

Absolutely nothing to do with this thread, or indeed forum, but I chuckled when I read about the labels - it seems that the only thing done for free when I order my next car (a rather tasty Audi Estate) is that Audi will remove the badging on the rear of the car - frankly I'm all in favour as I personally don't see the car as an extension of my p***s and therefore couldn't give a monkeys that people can't see what model I'm driving...the same logic applies to my TP - the labels bit the dust the first day

I had the sam experience of less clicking.
Your concern of Intel badge is easy to solve via removing touchpad part from bezel only then installing into old one.
Because they sent me wrong item instead of 15", I did the same thing, and I could keep original badges.
