Installed new BIOS (3.08a) - Wireless problem

#1 Post by DrBob » Sat Sep 04, 2004 7:31 pm

I installed the BIOS update (3.08a) for my T41 2373AHU.

Now the WIFI card that has worked flawlessly will not start. XP Device manager shows "Device Cannot Start (Code 10).
Driver version for the card is 2.4.1.6

Yes it is turned on in the BIOS settings

What a night! I downloaded & installed the newest drivers for the a/b/g card, which corrected the problem in device manager, the WiFi connection was still not working. I then un-installed IBM Access Connections and reinstalled the driver per the directions.
The T41 would hang on booting to the desktop. After re-entering the WEP keys in the Wireless Connection properties, things seem back to normal.

Back to my old way of thinking, if it isn't broke don't mess with it. No more BIOS upgrades for me just because there is a newer version available! :D

Did you update the wireless driver and the embedded controller, too?

I decided to try the new BIOS version, and it worked fine. I had already done an update of the IBM Wireless NIC driver and Access Connections software a week or so ago and all worked well together. I did have have problem making a connection from my Wireless Laptop to my other machines. That started today for reasons I don't understand, but I wound up removing all the wireless profiles in Access Connections and installing the main wireless profile. All is well now. ... JDHurst

I have the most current embedded controller,
The problem was indeed the old wireless driver.

Hmmm, spoke too soon.

I did install the new BIOS, I did restart, and everything did work. But this morning when I started up, there was no way to get a connection or IP address. I called IBM and opened a case. After a discussion about exact steps taken, and a discussion with next level up tech support, IBM requested I back-level to 3.06f. I have done that, reinstalled the wireless driver and Access Connections in the correct order and everything is back working including folder/drive mapping to my other machines.

So if you are considering upgrading to 3.08a, be sure to have the prior version available so that you can go backwards if necessary.
