I basically just want the 128MB FireGL graphics card instead of the 64MB Mobility X300. Are these mobos interchangeable?

I believe so, and the service parts list agrees with me that motherboard is a common part for T43 and T43p

Sweet... I see the 2668/9-CTO (which I don't have), and perhaps some others I missed can come with either, I take it that's what makes you say you can do the swap?

Yes all T4x ThinkPads that I have seen have soldered GPUs thats why the motherboard needs to be replaced/exchanged for this.

Forgive me if this is a newbie question, but I was thinking about upgrading the graphics card in this machine. Are you saying that I would have to replace the entire motherboard to do so? I haven't really looked into it at all myself yet, but I did see upgraded graphics cards on IBM's website for the T42, so I assumed I would be able to swap them out.

No, you CAN'T upgrade your laptop graphics chip by simply replacing the GFX chip. You need to change the entire motherboard. Unless you're using a Dell laptop you'll be able to swap GFX chips

Did a T43p mobo ever have the 256mb 5200 firegl card? Or is the limit the 128mb onboard card?

No maximum physical size for a FireGL V3200 is 128MB. And the 5200 FireGL is only availabe in newer models
