the decision: t60sxga or t43p
My t40p broke down, and I got a refund. Nice, but without choices life is simple... that has all changed.
I have decided to buy a TP that will do for the future too..therefore the decision btw the t60sxga and t43p.
I really need a reliable and quility/good build TP. From what I gather not all are satisfied with the t60 make.I am sensitive to noise...but have not listened to either the t60 or t43p...
1. Do I need to put into my considerations that the t43p is older tech than the newer t60 which will sport ie. Vista?
2. Is the Radeon X1300 pathetic alonside the T43p graphics card? (I do simple games and simple 3d modelling, I enjoy good cpu power)
3. Have I overlooked something here: for example that the make of the screens are better in the t60 than t43p? That the cpu power on a dualcore is so much more HT like?
I have been quite happy with my t40p quality before, but will not hesitate to get a newer generation if it is a better 'investment' for the future.
Hope you TP veterans and novices can help me make the decision!!
thx:roll:

Re: the decision: t60sxga or t43p
1. Having T43p with sufficient RAM (at least 1GB) will decently run Vista no problem
2. The Radeon X1300 is not pathetic, is newer technology so there's nothing to worry about
3. If you're concerned with CPU horsepower go for a Core Duo or a C2D. It has been reported that screens on T60 are nicer than the previous T4x models (SXGA+)
In my opinion, go for the T60. Time to scalate on the T series.

Since you are looking for the most future proofing you could do; you might as well go with the T60. I can't see any real reason as to why you would necessarily want to stick with the T43p instead as the T60s have advances not only when it comes to the chipset, but also the graphics and the LCD hardware in general.
Additionally, going to C2D or CD would give you the latest platform which you can upgrade.

Re: the decision: t60sxga or t43p
I think more people have fan noise problems with the T43p than with the T60.caffemusse wrote:I am sensitive to noise...but have not listened to either the t60 or t43p...

There are five of them and it's still 21 hours before the auctions end. Many people will start bidding during the last minute. The lowest Buy-It-Now price for a T43p is $1,240 shipped.no_man wrote:considering price, go with the T43P. Ebay has several T43P 2.26Ghz for $850.00 and the remaining T43 series can't be given away. No demand for these orphan puppies.

I got a T43 and a T42 and both are very fine machines. I had a T60 for tvo days when I was setting it up for a friend of mine. I found that its build quality is not as good as the T43. There was flex in the left arm rest and it just doesnt feel as sturdy as the T43. Its also alittle thicker so it has an higher profile than the T43.
But facts are that the T60 is latest generation so it performs better. But my wife's brother has a T43p and he is very happy.
The noise problems are easily fixed with the TP fancontrol utility.
Also I found the keyboard better on the T43 and T42 than the T60.
But it comes down to what you gonna use it for and how much you wanna spent.
There are advantages and there are disadvantages to each machine.
Anyways I would take the T43p or wait for the T61 and see if it isnt better quality than the T60.

It's highly variable. My boss's T60 is much sturdier than my T43, which flexes noticeably. The best way to go is buying one locally so that one can play with it before buying it, but unfortunately few people can do that.Gustavo wrote:I got a T43 and a T42 and both are very fine machines. Thx for the comments so far.
As always I forgot to mention that I guess my next buy is tilting towards the t43. (having tried the t40) I like the feel of these makes, and a more flimsy keyboard and finish is not something I'd like....so.
Guess any graphics card 64mb + can handle my graphics tasks so..
I guess it has come to this:
Which screen is better the 1400x1024 on the t60 or the t43? Can I expect the 15'' to be a better deal...?
Processer power: for the most part I will be using this machine as a 'silenced' one for office stuff, I however will need to do the occasional hard cpu task. Is the diff. btw core duo 1,83 and a Pm 2.13 (t43) so big?
Once more looking forward to your valuable comments!!

It really depends on what type of intensive applications you like to run. For most office tasks, it really isn't going to make a really significant difference.caffemusse wrote:
