I just bought a new 1871WC7 t43 at a very good price, but had a few questions.
I was trying to figure out about upgrading, and I had a few questions:
a)I take it I can't upgrade from Intel 900 integrated video.
b)I don't have bluetooth. I tried to figure out if I had this bluetooth wire thing I see listed, but couldn't find out since wc7 seems to not be listed in any of the hardware pdf's (39t6193.pdf)
c)If I don't have a bluetooth wire, is my only option a usb one?
d)Is it possible to upgrade from XGA to SXGA?
Thanks. Very excited about seeing what all the fuss is about these thinkpads.
Probably very simplistic questions about my new t43

Re: Probably very simplistic questions about my new t43
a) You can't
b) You could buy the Modem/Bluetooth card and replace it (You'll have to open up your Thinkpad or send it to a Service Center)
c) See above
d) Yes, simply by buying a SXGA+ screen.
Enjoy your Thinkpad !

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forum
Here are some quick answers;
A.) No, unless you consider a whole new planar board. The GPU is soldered on and anything short of a new planar would not be an upgrade.
B.) One way of checking, if you have exhausted all the manuals, is to look for three wires entering the left hinge of the display. Normally, if you had the Bluetooth wire as well as Wireless, you would ses a black wire, a grey wire, and a white wire. If you have only two and wireless, then you don't have the bluetooth wire.
C.) You can order a Modem/Bluetooth CDC card and the wire (91P6897) as well although I haven't checked on the availability of both from IBM/Lenovo. Keep in mind that the T43 uses a different card, BDMC-3, as opposed to the T42, which uses a BDMC-2 card. See the layout inside a T43/p for how they go in. The rest of the part numbers you would need are also on that page.
D.) Yes you can, but you are going to need to adapt the inverter properly for it to work, if I recall correctly. There are in-depth threads here describing that.
