T40 freezes!

#1 Post by Dmitry » Mon Sep 06, 2004 2:35 pm

Hello,

I've just bought a T40 taday.
So far so good untill it freezed just without any known reason!

This happened when I hit back button in Internet Explorer while browsing the web.
The button itself remained pushed but the system freezed completely,
ie unable to switch tasks, no cursor movement, no HDD read/write work.

I was forced to make a hard reboot to reload.

All PC-Doctor's tests passed ok for all times.

The board temperature is also fine(40 C) - the fan works as expected.

Does this mean a pure hardware error(bad memory or bad motherboard)?

Please help!

Thank you,
Dmitry,
T40/256/40/DVD-CDRW user

Most likely a software glitch. See if it continues.

It happened again in Internet Explorer and again just
after XP just loaded - memtest under DOS found nothing
after 7 hours run.

Well, I'd do a re-install of the software. Press the blue access IBM button when you turn on the computer. This will give you the option to re-image the computer to factory specs (save any valuable files to a CDR or network/USB drive first). If that doesn't cure the problem re-image the system from a set of recovery CDs. If that doesn't work, then it's probably a hardware problem and will need to be serviced.
