T41 & T43 and Serial Port

#1 Post by drewmich » Sun Dec 17, 2006 1:59 pm

We use T41 & T43s in our shop and are looking for a low cost solution to gain a serial port. Has any one had success with the USB/Serial adapters? Which brand and model # if you have had it work properly? What about a mini hub as some manufature? I know we can always buy the Replicator II but they are large and bulky.

There used to be USB to RS-232C serial adapters readily available, and I assume that would still be the case, but I haven't had a need for a RS-232C serial port for so long that I just haven't looked.

Cheers,

Bill

They are available but wanted to be sure that someone has had success in getting them to work properly.

The serial connection is not a fast one so it doesn't have to be "hi-speed" only 9600 for a terminal connection.

Would going back to a T2x or 600 series system be out of line? A couple of those old systems can be found fairly cheaply.

I used to have some of those adapters around, but I don't think I have them any more. They did work correctly almost all of the time, but would rarely require a reboot, now and then, to get them working again.

I use an Aten UC-232A to send/receive data with my Garmin serial GPS at 9600 baud. It works quite well.

Why don't you get the new ultrabay port drive with serial and parallel ports? They were introduced recently by Lenovo for their T60. I think they should fit into the T4x as well.

Sorry, it's probably no luck on the ThinkPad UltraBay Slim Serial/Parallel port adapter. Have a look at this thread:
