I realize that this is most likely a software issue, but I thought I would ask if anyone has had issues in iTunes ripping music from CDs with the CD-RW/DVD drive in the T42. This seems like it should be a pretty simply operation but iTunes usually ends up freezing when I try to extract/convert audio. It will almost always freeze when attempting to rip an entire CD, but can often get through a number of songs before it happens.
Any ideas?

Have you ripped CDs with other applications, e.g. Winamp, and had them freeze/hang like that? Sounds vaguely familiar to me as a problem that can sometimes crop up with iTunes, but I would check all your drivers and software first. I do recall that iTunes could sometimes cause trouble with the CD drive as well and there was a post with a solution here about that a little while back, I will see if I can find it.

Many thanks! I clearly should have provided this extra bit of information instead of leaving you to assume one way or the other: I can extract and encode with the combination of EAC and Lame, so there doesn't seem to be anything obviously wrong with the drive. But iTunes is designed for simplicity, and seemingly also for wide compatibility. Ok perhaps not a reasonable assumption, but please forego snarky anti-iTunes comments (I know someone was thinking it!).

No problem, Snabjab.
Hereis one post that I found. Although it isn't the problem at hand, the registry entry certainly has something to do with the handle to the CD drive when it comes to burning/ripping audio files. There was actually a website I was thinking of that detailed just such a problem...Hmmm.
Hope this helps for now.
