T42 UltraNav Middle (Scroll) Button SQUEAKING!

#1 Post by He-Man » Tue Sep 07, 2004 6:18 pm

Any one else have this issue? Been using machine for <2months (though I scroll a lot i guess)...It's that plastic on plastic squeak that just makes you shudder (I'm in a library so it's amplified).

Mine makes a very slight *tic* noise when I push it down, but its not anything I consider out of the ordinary (much much much less noticeable than the creak in my left palmrest).
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I had that problem. I kind of fixed it by putting a tiny bit silicone grease under the button, which slides down and pops off. This was no longer an issue when I got the Thai keyboard to replace the sqeaky China one.

If my button was squeaking, I would not lube it (well, I might while I waited for the new one ;) ).
I would call IBM and tell them to send me another one.

And, like taphil, I did call IBM. I had the china made one, and the left button and center scroll started creaking within a week. The Thai one is perfect.

changing the keyboard changes the ultranav buttons as well (the ones with the red and blue stripes on them)?

yep. the buttons for the trackpoint are attached to the keyboard. the buttons for the touchpad are part of the palmrest though.
