CD burning problems

#1 Post by syhead » Mon Jan 01, 2007 7:22 pm

My T42's drive won't burn CD's at speeds faster than 4x.
This problem started a couple of months ago... it used to work just fine.
Anybody here has experienced something like this???

It could be the media you are using. Even if you are using the same brand, there may have been a change. For an example: I was using Verbatim CD/R's for some time with good results. I went out and bought a new package of Verbatim CD/R's and was having nothing but trouble. I went on Plextor's site to see which CD/R's were on the manufacturer's approved list. My older Verbatims were listed (by part number), but the newer ones were not. After looking over the package more carefully, I saw that the "good" ones were made in Taiwan, and the "problem" ones were made in India. It turns out they used a different dye in the manufacturing process between these two disks.

FTR, I still use Verbatim disks (made in Taiwan). Verify that you are using quality media.

EDIT: I just thought of one other thing to check. Go to Device Manager, and under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Secondary IDE Channel, verify that the current transfer mode is Ultra DMA 2. The Primary IDE Channel (your hard drive interface) should also be using Ultra DMA.
