T42 2378FVU region free DVD player

#1 Post by fafaforza » Wed Sep 08, 2004 8:19 pm

Hi all,

The DVD drive that my T42 has is the Matshita UJDA755. Has anyone been able to remove the region restriction on it?

I haven't been able to find any info on it, except someone claiming that the drive doesn't check the region setting in linux when using Xine.

I hope this isn't considered a taboo subject that gets me banned from here. All I'm trying to do is watch some rally videos I bought from the UK.

Thanks for any info.

I would say either go to rpc1.com and look for edited firmware (to set your drive to RPC1), or get a program such as "AnyDVD" or "DVD Region&CSS Free." Those 2 programs, simply put, "trick" windows into thinking the drive has a different region setting than it does so you can play any region DVD.

You're lucky that you have the Matshita UJDA755 because there is one program that will work with it and that's the DVD Region Free program mentioned above. Unfortunately AnyDVD won't work with it. Most Matshita DVD Drives (and your case DVD-RW/CDRW) have a firmware in them that blocks the firmware from actually being read, thus making many programs inoperable in removing the Region limitations. Anyway, I have such a drive that I can't do anything with in regards to Region setting, but someday, someone will figure mine out too.

In your case, someone has! Go to http://www.dvdidle.com/download.htm and download either of the top two programs for free. I've tried them both. The Beta version takes the copy guard out of the latest audio CD's so that's the one I would download.

Just follow the instructions! Good luck, and have tons of fun :)
P.S. I've PM'ed you for some more information.

Do these programs work with the Matshita UJDA745 drive also, or is this one that blocks reading the firmware?
