Faulty T40 Keyboard

#1 Post by JHEM » Wed May 19, 2004 12:01 am

I was busy this evening setting up a couple of new 1.5GHz T40s for a client when I noted that the keyboard of one of them had a definite problem.

A "column" of keys consisting of 4,5,r,t,f,g,v and b were all non-functional. Wasn't a driver problem, as they wouldn't work in the BIOS diagnostics either.

A new keyboard will ship via overnight express tomorrow for delivery Thursday, thanks to IBM, but the main reason I'm posting about this matter is the fact that the IBM support person who took my call showed no surprise at my report. In fact, he said "we've seen some of that"!

Just a heads-up!

Regards,

James

Try reseating keyboard cable

I had the same issue with a T41. When the new keyboard arrived I went to take the old one out and noticed the cable wasn't firmly seated.
I removed the old keyboard, blew some compressed air on the connector and reconnected it --- the old keyboard worked perfectly!
