T43, Port replicator II and KVM problems

#1 Post by nauht » Fri Jan 05, 2007 4:28 pm

Hello,

My Port replicator II just arrived and I'm using a T43 on it but I am having a problem with my unpowered KVM. The PS2 keyboard (KVM) that is connected to the Port Replicator is not working; it doesn't respond to keys. I'm thinking that my KVM is not compatible with the Port replicator... I've heard of other problems with Belkin KVMs. Does anyone have a KVM that they are using with a Port replicator that is working? I'm using an ATEN 4 port KVM : http://www.aten.com/products/productIte ... =subClass2

I too had problems with KVM switches and the port replicator.

I bought an IOGear MiniView 2 port switch and it has been working fine.

I then bought a Thinkpad USB keyboard and it does not seem to be compatible with this switch. So, I now need to look for a new KVM myslef, but I think this IOGear model will work fine for you.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your response. I was just looking at my setup and realize that I have a Logitech USB keyboard and an MX510 mouse. I really don't want to sacrifice the extra functionality which both devices have (the extra multimedia keys, buttons, etc) so now I'm considering a USB switching device like this IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch (GUB201). A lot of the USB KVMs out there I believe emulate a keyboard and mouse, so using those KVMs would mean I'll lose the extra functionality of my keybd and mouse.

Nauht,

I have the USB version of the IOGear MiniView 2 port switch and it works great. I have a Microsoft Desktop Elite Keyboard and Wireless mouse.

Does your computers/laptop connected to the KVM detect the keyboard as a Microsoft keyboard or some generic USB keyboard? What about the mouse? Thanks.

The mouse is recognized as a Microsoft mouse. I'm not sure about the keyboard.
