Sound problem T43
Sound problem T43
Hi, i've noticed my sound is acting strange.
When I play a movie or a song the sound is like "stopping" for 0.2sec, a few times when a lot of music/sound is played. It's hard to describe, and it is annoying. What can I do?

Has it always behaved like that or did the problem start recently?
It reminds me of my Dell Dimension B110 desktop's problem with certain movies DVDs. The images would freeze every now and then, like once a minute. But that problem somehow disappeared when I played the same DVDs in a limited user account (instead of an administrater one). Weird.

A couple of things you could check...
In Device Manager open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Secondary IDE Channel. Verify that you are using Ultra DMA mode, not PIO mode.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrator Tools > Services. Try Stopping and Disabling the Ati Hotkey poller service (if you have an ATI graphics adapter). Some users have reported that stopping this service has fixed jumpy video playback on their systems.

This might be caused by an interrupt problem or high CPU load.rabbarba wrote:Hi, i've noticed my sound is acting strange.

Check the hardware manager and the system perfomance monitor.
Your HW manager will show yellow or red for IRQ problems and your CPU load should be well below 66%.
How long has this been happening?
If you’ve had it from the beginning, it could be the software you’re using. It’s a very complex thing to convert the scan rate of DVDs from the rate TVs run at, to the rate computer monitors run at. If the software doesn’t get it exactly right, you can get garble. The software that came with the laptop should work correctly, but if you're using something else, that could be the problem.
If this has only just started, and you haven't done anything (like loading new software, etc.) and/or if you notice it when playing strait audio, I might suggest you run adware/spyware & virus scans. I hate to resort, as some people do, to always blaming problems on this cop-out, but this crap is out there, and it does affect performance. If something is sucking up your computer’s resources, it can result in audio jitter.

I just stumbled across the following this morning. I suppose it could be your problem.
