15" T42 in a Shinza ZeroShock?

#1 Post by aghusker » Thu Sep 09, 2004 2:57 pm

How does it fit?

I'd like to get the Medium size Zeroshock, but the 15" T42 is technically ~1/4 inch too deep (10.4" vs 10.2" interior space).

I think the Large size will be too big for my travel bag.

Does anyone have any comments on my choices?
I'm hoping I can squeez into the Medium size.

Thanks,

I have a large on order, so I'll post my impressions with the 15" whenever I get it.

A friend has the 12" for his Dell 700m. The laptop exceeds one of the interior space measurements by about 0.5" or so, and it fits just fine.

The Zeroshock will stretch a limited amount to fit around a laptop. I also have an extended Li-ion on my 15" though, so I didn't want to take the chance with the medium size.

I have a 15in t42, and the 15 inch medium zeroshock...

The machine fits inside fine, but it takes a bit of manuvering - won't slide right in.

Pretty good fit, but slightly loose on the sides.

The Shinza was made for a widescreen powerbook right? It sounds like that accounts for the wiggle room on the side.

Thanks for your comments!

Sounds like the Med will work for me.

schUsseln: Does your 15in T42 carry a hi-capacity battery? If it's a tight fit with the 6-cell battery, it might not fit with the 9-cell.

aghuscker: Don't underestimate your chances of switching to a hi-capacity battery. They cost under $100 on eBay and really open up the amount of time available unplugged, not to mention being useful for many more months as their maximum capacity decays.

it's really a pain to find a bag to fit the behemoth 15" T42. It is a much "deeper" laptop (palmwrest to power jack) than most other stuff. I'm *still* looking for a decent messenger-style bag that will fit it, either with or without the extended battery. (I've got both, I'm using the 6-cell now because i'm almost always plugged in anyway, plus it's more comfy to grab it from the rear with the short battery.)

I'd love to have a good messenger bag that will hold it with either one though... and not require tomfoolery like the crappy ancient Targus i'm using now. Anyone have any ideas?

Just got the 15 inch medium zeroshock sleeve and it fits my 15 inch T42 with six cell battery perfectly.

No fuss, no muss, no stretch marks.

Wouldn't want it any looser or tighter.

I wrote on this topic a few weeks ago:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=4477

In short: I have 14.1" and 15" t42s, 6 and 9 cell batteries, and the medium and large zeroshock sleeves.

I found that the 15" w/6 cell is a VERY tight fit in the 15" med. sleeve. The zeroshock does stretch to fit, but you do have to fight it to get the last corner in, and you're giving up protection on the corners because the foam is compressed from the pressure. I couldn't get the med to close at all with the 15" 9-cell.

I use the 15" large with the 15" t42. There's no doubt this sleeve was made for a larger laptop. But it fits (along with a 1500pg hardcover textbook if you want) and is easy to close at least.

It looks like some people say they have no problem getting it into the med. I know there are different tolerances with respect to how firm the foam is at temperature, I'm thinking that might have something to do with it.

Sorry for the lag! I just noticed this post.

I got the 9-cell a few months ago, and made it work with the zero-shock. I found the trick was to get the machine sliding in, but to put the battery on the closed side - sort of shoe-horning the thing in.

The bag's got a bit of a deformation now, so it's not nearly as pretty, but it all fits in if you need it to.
