question about "hpa information" from faq

I have read the IBM whitepaper on HPA and Kyocera's clarification in the FAQ section and I still have a question. If I am replacing a disk with a larger or smaller one, I understand that I must first install the HPA from an set of image files on a bootable DVD. After that is done, I can restore my files using whatever tool I have. (I use Acronis true image.) Should I restore the MBR or just the basic partition (what IBM calls IBM service partition)?
