Battery Query fo T-42

#1 Post by corleone » Thu Jan 11, 2007 11:24 am

Hey Y'all

My computer is oin on 3 years old and I think it is time to replace my batters (drains in about 30 minutes from full charge).

I have Battery 92P1011

I would like to upgrade to the 9-cell 92P1102

How do I know if this is compatible?

Thank you!

Sure it will work. No problem. Sticks out a little bit from the back though (but it does this on all the ThinkPads it is compatible with).

I have a T42p that came with a 9 cell battery, and I have been using a 6 cell battery with it for a long time, simply because I don't like the size and weight of the 9 cell.

So, based on my experience, it appears that you can swap the batteries around as you wish.

Thanks for your replies... I got an IBM new sealed in box 9 cell battery on ebay for $110 (including the shipping) I thought this was a pretty sweet deal...

li-ion (what they are) batteries always are stored with a 30% charge from the manufacturer, they stay fresh that way.

no special break-in should be needed. for kicks and confidence, i would charge it to full, then use it down to about 40% or so each time before you charge it fully again (do it about 5 times). this should work in the new cells about as good as one could, and after 5-10 recharge cycles the pack will be operating at full potential.

If you dont care or dont have time to do a 'break-in', just use it how you want. it wont hurt anything, li-ions have no memory and they really wont be hurt by just using them however you like. what kills li-ion packs is time, meaning from the time they are made to now. if kept at room temp, all packs die about the same time wether they are used a lot or not (2-4 years). so use them often to get the most for your money, you wont be giving it any unnecessary deterioration.
