DVD Software in Backup CDs

#1 Post by hmphargh » Fri Sep 10, 2004 3:32 pm

is the DVD software in there? if so, is there any way I can extract it without running a recovery? - I dont need to format, but I installed a "generic" winxp and would like to get that free dvd decoding software that came with the t42  thanks for your help.

I'm not aware of any way to extract the individual software packages from the recovery CDs to install after the fact. You can restore the factory image from your recovery CDs and then copy the contents of the IBMTOOLS folder (the DVD player, etc, are in there) and then do your clean XP install from a MS/OEM disk.

I'm confident that somewhere you've got a spare hard drive - that you just 'happen' to put in the laptop, and just 'happen' to restore with the Recovery CD's, and then you just 'happen' to copy off the right bits (as Keith pointed out above) if you get my drift...

As it so happens, on my way home tonight, I managed to drive 160 klms out of my way (!) to go to BUZET the home of one of my prefered (Baron d'Ardeuil)- it's just after AGEN going East and it's worth the trip. Agen is known for it's prunes, of all things, usually (well, best) steeped in Armagnac.

Anyway, despite the name (there's worse - I drive thru Condom to get there...) the red is a particular favourite, though now the stocks of the 1996 have run too low, and I was only able to buy the 1998 which is not as good - well, so they tell me - it's in a bottle so it's ok by me...
