Could it perhaps be
DiskView (by Microsoft), you're thinking of:

This program was made by
Sysinternals, who were recently taken over by Microsoft (see
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... fault.mspx - they provide a large number of highly usable, free tools!). I use several of Sysinternbal's tools daily, in particular their "Process Explorer".
Another (also free) hard drive mapping tool, with more options, is
WinDirStat:
