What would cause my screen to go BLACK before any videos will load? Similarly, when I close the window, the screen goes black again.

black screen
For example, if I visit CNN.com, or ESPN.com and try to load one of the videos the screen will go totally black than after 15-20 seconds the video will load...
Usually with windows media player (as i think it is my default).
thanks!

still unresolved
Someone out there must have an idea for me to try.... Whenever I try to play a video, such as on cnn.com or espn.com or anything that uses windows media player... the screen goas BLACK...i can see in the blackness the outline of the video... it flashes a few times as if it is trying to load, and then it loads... similarly, when i CLOSE the video, the screen goes black fo2 2 seconds and then returns to normal....
PLEASE, any suggestions would be really appreciated...

Look at your ATI Monitor settings--and specifically the PowerPlay tab.
You likely have "Allow automatic color reduction" selected.
Turn it off.

I am still plagued by this... Anytime i load a video in say Windows Media Player... screen goes black for 5 seconds, blinks a lil, then the video comes up... when i close (by using the X in top corner) the screen goes black again for 5 seconds, then returns to normal...
ANYONE have an idea? Or even a suggestions?
thanks all,
C.

Well, it sure sounds like Media Player is expecting different video settings than what your display is normally set to.
- color depth (8-, 16-, 24-, or 32-bit)
- resolution (are you using the non-default display resolution?)
- ATI's battery-saving mode which switches to less power-hungry settings (refresh, color depth) unless needed
Any of these things changing (when Media Player asks for them) would cause your screen to blank out and flash while it makes the changes.
Exiting Media Player would make it blank out and flash while it changes them back to your "normal" settings.

:::
When you are not at any video page,
open task Manager & see your "system idle/CPU",
does it read more than 80-9x% or less than 30%....
Maybe because your system was full of unknown crap
processes loading at the background, so, your cpu have no
time to serve your video lanch request......
