Yes and no.
It will run but only one the 400MHz bus. Meaning it will run slower.
You need a 400MHz FSB Dothan which I believed topped out at or around 2.16GHz.

Re: T42p processor upgrade
the real question is, "what am I going to get as a result after I go through the aggravation and expense of performing this upgrade?"eremeya wrote:What processors can I use in my T42p?
The answer is, "precious little."
The old rule of thumb used to be that there was no point in any sort of CPU upgrade if it did not result in at least a 100% increase in CPU power. Since so much of what computers are used for these days barely uses the CPU at all, if anything you probably need more than 100% of an increase in CPU power to notice anything, unless you are doing almost entirely number crunching.
Within the range of processor upgrades available to you, to my knowledge you will still be stuck with the same cpu cache and the bus speed of your laptop. If you go from what you have now to what you can buy and retrofit, the increase will be on the order of 25 or 30%, which in reality is "not much."
If you want a faster T4x notebook than what you have, my suggestion would be to ebay your laptop and buy another one, either used, new, or refurbed. You will probably spend less money in the process, have no likelihood of trashing what was previously a working system, and will have a higher likelihood of seeing a performance difference. This would be especially true if you bought a T43 machine rather than upgraded your machine, since at least the bus speed is faster, you would have DDR2 RAM, and at least if CPUZ can be believed, that RAM can run in Dual channel (as reported on my T43).
