Just got a new T42p,but it won't read a dvd what should I do

I just got a 2373-GVU, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2373gvu. I tried to test my battery life by playing a looped DVD and seeing how long it would last, but when I put in my Gone in 60 Seconds(Real DVD) it couldn't read it. When I went to My Computer and double clicked on my DVD drive it was empty like there was no DVD inside. Then I put in another movie and it ran, but during the middle of the movie it started to skip and pause and then I got an error message in WinDvd "Media read error". My DVD-Rom/cd+-rw drive is a Matshita UJDA755 y. Does anyone know if this is a common problem with this drive? I tried to search the forums for this drive, but I found nothing that could help. Would IBM replace the drive for free since I just got this laptop?

I would certainly call IBM.

If it is the drive itself then yes they will replace the drive no problem.
They will send you the new one and then you will have to send the old one back.

Do you know what # to call and what information I would need to give them?

I had the same problem, seems like they had a bad batch of DVD burners. I called tech support, they sent me a new one, all is again well with the world.

Can you tell me the # you called? And did they send you a box to send your old drive back to them?

I had the exact same thing happen with my multiburner. DVDs initally worked. When I tried to use it again a few weeks later, any DVD in the drive wouldn't show up at all, as if the drive was empty. CDs worked just fine.

I called IBM, they sent out an extra drive no questions asked via Airborne Express. You replace it, stick the return unit back in the box and afix the included return label; call Airborne to schedule a free pickup, and you're done.

1-800-426-7378
Access IBM button, "Get Help and Support", Call IBM.

wow I just had the worst experience with IBM tech support. I asked the guy to repeat my address just so I could be sure they had it right and the guy says why? I tell him I just want to make sure and the guy says why?
Is there any way for me to check the address they are sending the drive so I can make sure he got it right?
