My T41 USED to do that but I found changing two things eliminated it for me:
1. turn down the volume on the keyboard (by the 'Access IBM' button)
2. turn down the MASTER volume slider on the taskbar control
(you can turn up the PCM or WAV sliders though)
Found when those controls were maxed out, or near maxed out, something in the system just didn't like it ... and it appears many of us have (had) that static!

Thank you for your answer - I did what you said and it help a little bit, but I think that my case could be a little bit more complicated. I noticed that the crack/scratch depends on last played samples, because when I play somethink and I stop it, then before next playing I can hear than annoying crack/scratch while audio device is initializing. But when I play a silent piece of music then after stop and next play there is everythink OK. I also noticed it is more under Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) than under Windows XP - so it could be also related to device driver.
Best regards

Andrew, you ended with "sorry for my english...".
I think your english is better than MANY here in America!
Regarding the crackling issue. I too have Ubuntu 7.1 and have no noise. In fact I have no noise at all since adjusting the volumes as stated above and I work in many OS's (see SIG).
I'm curious, do you listen to the laptop speakers or do you use line-out and plug into an amplifier? I found the laptop speakers don't like max volume. They will certainly crackle with volumes maxed.
If you are interested, there is an accessory you can buy (which I bought and really like) which allows you to hear more volume. It is a USB speaker, small enough to even travel with! I put it in the travel bag for traveling, use it at home when not plugged into an amplifier. Here's a link:
http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Speakers-P ... B000LJ2T3Q
(notice the high review rating too)
Lastly, I don't want to dismiss the possibility of crackling being a driver issue. The noise issue here was done away some time ago so it is hard to remember EVERYTHING I might have done to solve it! Fact is, I have gone into XP & W2K services and driver section (registry) to make sure no un-necessary drivers are being installed ... that includes typical audio accessory drivers!! HOWEVER, I also use Win98SE and Ubuntu and have NO noise problems there either.
So you may need to look deeper into the driver / audio accessory driver possibilities.
Please let us know how you make out.
