battery is loose

#1 Post by Daofu » Sun Sep 12, 2004 2:51 am

I just got my t42 2378fvu and noticed that the battery is a bit loose. The same goes for the extended battery i got. Is this normal or is the battery supposed to have a solid fit? Also, when i close it, the screen has a bit of "give" with the bottom keyboard part of the laptop. I dont want to give the impression that im a perfection nazi though  . I just heard about ibm's excellent build quality, that's all and this is my first laptop anyway so i have nothing to compare it to. Thank you in advance

Welcome to the forums (fora?) :)
Many people have complained of a loose battery - especially with the 14" models. The display flex/gap when closed is another common topic of discussion.
I don't have any links handy, but you will find many, many threads with a simple search on these forums: http://forum.thinkpads.com/search.php
Also, the FAQ here has some good info in it (though not about the above 2 issues):

One thing you ought to do, however, is edit your post. Though you will unlikely be able to offend me, there are many people that would be offended by your choice of wording for "perfectionist". :(

A friend of mine applied a piece of black elec. tape to the laptop on the surfaces between the battery and laptop and it snugged his up well.

The loose battery is "normal," although I think IBM should have fixed this issue a long time ago.
