Can a KEYBOARD problem be Battery Related?

#1 Post by corleone » Sun Jan 21, 2007 9:44 pm

I recently upgraded the battery on my T-42 fom the stock 6-cell to a new IBM 9-cell battery.

I have been noticing lately that when I type [ for example right now while writing this post] the keyboard fails to pick up certain keys... I have not expienced a problem in WORD, only while typing in certain web applications... It doesnt appear to be isolated to certain keys, it just sort of misses a letter or two here and there (only one of the two "e"s in THERE just came up...)

Does anyone have an idea of why this could be happening? Is it possible that a problem with the BATTERY could causethe keyboard to malfunction? Also I have been noticing that other web applications are running slower than they did before the battery change...

I thought that the keyboard / battery thing was just a coincidence and then i saw this thread below....

thanks in advance,

C.

Off hand, I would not think a battery could cause the problem you are describing with typing. Here is what I would do to try and track down the problem.

Launch Windows Task Manager (CTRL + ALT +DEL), and under options make sure Always on top is checked, then click on the Processes tab. Next type in whatever program is giving you the problem and watch Task Manager for any processes consuming CPU resources. You can ignore the System Idle Process. You may have to scroll down in Task Manager and type some more, until you can watch all the processes.

A less likely cause of your problem, but if the above doesn't give any results, try the following. Go to Device Manager and verify that under: IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > both Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel (look on the Advanced settings tab) are using Ultra DMA and not PIO mode.
