t42 MOBO replacement

#1 Post by liliggyracin » Wed Jan 24, 2007 11:44 am

Well after yesterdays nightmare I am worried about todays. First thing this morning I get a tech sitting outside my office when I walk in the door. (Never can be good) He comes in and hands me his laptop. I ask whats wrong. he said " It doesnt like cappucino" I was like ahh hell. Its a T-42 type 2373-4WU with 2 years of warranty left on it. Only downfall is that liquid VOIDS the darn warranty. So I guess my question is. Any ideas on what the price for a MOBO replacement is (if thats the only thing that is wrong) I took the laptop apart. Cleaned everything to a shine but you cant mistake that lovely signature that coffee leaves on electronics so we are going to have to eat the cost of this repair. Just hoping someone has some ideas on the price and if its worth repairing or just scrapping for parts and purchasing a new one.

Thanks!!

Iggy

A new motherboard for the T42 will set you back $300-400. See if you can get an estimate on the repair cost first. It's most likely going to be cheaper to repair it than get a new one, but new T60s start at $1149 - quite tempting.

Lol I called to get an idea and they gave me a price range from 175-975 dollars. Guess it all depends on what they have to replace. I have removed the memory and tested in another machine. Works fine. Hard drive and DVD drive same thing. Battery is good as well. We are going to send it in I guess and just let the other department eat the cost so it doesnt have to come out of my budget :) When will Techs learn that Coffee does not make the machine run any faster.

I guess :SH!: lol Thanks for the response :)
