Purchased T42, question

#1 Post by helmet4000 » Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:59 am

just purchased used T42 from Ebay seller ...under warranty till May 2007.

Are there any known (engineering/mfg.) issues w/T42's I should know about?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Nope, you can upgrade the processor to a faster 400MHz FSB, you can upgrade the HDD to whatever manufacturer/capacity/speed unlike T43 which doesn't let non-IBM firmware HDD to boot the machine.

So far so good with my T42p. Enjoy it

eh, there are known issues with the planar board (motherboard) and graphics chips that like to come unsoldered from the board leaving you with corrupted video or nonfunctioning video.

The other alternative is that the board itself can crack.

supposedly, this stuff happens the most when people hold the notebook by one of the front corners, especially if you have the 9-cell battery.

I generally do NOT hold it by the front edge, maybe once every few weeks... and i've already had my video die as described above.

New (used) T42

#5 Post by helmet4000 » Tue Jan 30, 2007 7:11 am

I just received my T42 yesterday. It still has a warranty until May 2007 so I should probably try and get a few things cleared up.

I noticed the internal wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI loses the connection very frequently.

According to the parts list on the Lenovo site, it says that this is a CRU and in the parts list it says:

"91P7267
replaces
91P7143"

does that mean, given the warranty, that they will likely send a replacement if I call IBM (does Lenovo handle it)?

I noticed that the palm rest (same side as arrow keys) is a bit creaky sounding and has some flex. Not sure if they would do something about that .

Fan seems to be on quite a bit and have kind of a "whine"...but nothing too troubling.
