How do you boot from usb hard drive in t40?

#1 Post by jongordo8 » Fri Jan 26, 2007 10:47 pm

I cloned my existing drive with acronis true image 10 home using a usb 2 enclosure. This was just a backup clone using an older 3.5 ide hard drive in an usb enclosure. Everything went smooth with acronis, however when I elect for my t40 to boot from usb hdd it just stays blank with a cursor in the upper left corner. I have usb boot enabled in bios.

Is it possible and if so how do you do it? I want to verify that it was successful.

It shows the correct drive contents when you boot using the t40's hd and click on drive E.

noticed someone else had issues similar as well, but couldnt figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

When you cloned the drive, how was it done? Is Acronis installed on the laptop or was the source of the data mounted via USB somewhere else? Are you planning to move the HPA (the place the recovery stuff lives)? How was the partition set up on the new drive?

I think the problem is related to the way the partition table is set up on the drive in the primary bay. The T40, 41. 42 are different from the others.

I cloned from the T40 to the USB drive and now am trying to boot from the T40.

I only have one partition on the T40 hard drive and on the USB hard drive.

Eventually I want to clone from USB hard drive to a new notebook Hard Disk.
