Ultimate Boot CD for Windows

#1 Post by acz » Sat Jan 27, 2007 10:18 pm

I think that UBCD4Win would be a good resource to have as a disaster recovery tool.
The instructions for creating the UBCD4Win CD are pretty clear, but I was derailed when I got to this part:

"Insert your XP CD with SP1/SP2 into a CD Rom drive ... copy XP CD to the hard drive."

Of course my Thinkpad T41p came with XP SP1 preloaded, and I updated it to SP2 later on. Anyway, I do not have any XP CD.

Is there some directory on my C drive that contains the information that would have been on XP CD?
Can I just point the UBCD4WinBuilder.exe to an existing directory?

I figure someone here is way ahead of me and can point me in the right direction. thank you!
600e (needs a replacement HD)
T20 (2647-44U, needs a win98 install disk to rebuild vmm32.vxd)
T23 (2647-HNU, pulsing fan, won't boot)
T41p (2373-GEU, works perfectly)
T61 (7658-CTO, works perfectly)

I am not quite sure of what you want (other than creating an emergency recovery CD-ROM, allowing a complete restore of your Windows XP), but if you also want to b able to restore all of your ThinkPad (= specific IBM) drivers and tools etc., then I suggest you check this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=3827 entitled: "How to Fresh Install Win XP (Step-by-Step Guide)".

The thread will point you to http://www.4saad.com/WhatsNew/Fresh_XP_Install/ where you will find a very detailed guide. I have a PDF'ed version of this guide - thanks to JHaislet. Send me a PM, if you wish me to mail you a copy of this PDF guide (approx. 1 MB).

Best regards,

Johan
