T40 Parts that will fit into T60?

#1 Post by lautamas » Sun Jan 28, 2007 1:40 am

Hello People,
I wonder if parts bellow on a T40 will fit into a T60.
1. Harddisk
2. Ultrabay accessories such as DVD-CD/RW and DVD+RW
3. Docking system

The reason I ask this is because I am having a consideration whether to buy a T60 or T43 from a T40.

Thank You,

Michael

You cannot use the hard disk from the T40 as a primary hard disk in the T60, because the T40 uses a PATA hard disk and the T60 uses a SATA disk. You COULD purchase an ultrabay 2nd hard disk adapter for PATA disks which Lenovo apparently does not support in the T60 but which by report here will work. I doubt that it is worth the effort however because smallish hard disks like what is likely in your T40 are very cheap these days and if you need additional storage you could buy a SATA hard disk and Sata hard disk ultra bay adapter instead. If the disk in your T40 is worth saving consider just buying a small USB 2.0, 2.5" enclosure for (certainly) less than $15 and the added bonus is that you can use this additional storage with any of your computers that have USB 2 ports.

The ultrabay accessories you list should fit however they may be dated by today's standards.

The T4x docking stations will not work with a T60 system.

If I were you I'd consider ebaying the things that are dated and maybe keeping the DVD-RW ultrabay drive, which is probably worth keeping.
