T42 with 15", what's the weight with hi-cap battery ?

#1 Post by wedge » Tue Sep 14, 2004 3:59 am

I am soon to be (happy ?) owner of T42 and reading the discussion about it and getting bit worried about expected battery life. Since the notebook is already bit heavy for it's purpose (2.7kg) I wonder how much it would weight with the 9-cell battery that's physically larger and heavier..

thanks for replies

Welcome to the forum and TP family wedge!

I've got a T42 with the 15' and seem to get well over two hours of service out of the regular battery. I work in the field a lot and usually leave my brick at home, unless I have to spend the night out of town. While the nine cell would be a nice back up, I have not had the need.

My TP is not that heavy so the addition of the nine cell would not be an issue for me.

I say use it with the regular battery and if it becomes an issue, spring for the nine cell later! JMO :)

I guess it depends on which model you have, ie: whether with the 14.1" screen, or a 15" screen. Since I have both <grin>, I'll give you the weight for both of these.

15" with 9 cell battery: 6.3lbs / 2.86kb

14.1" with 9 cell battery: 5.75lbs / 2.61kg

The 9 cell battery pretty much adds 0.5lbs (0.23kb) to the weight of the laptop over the standard, 6 cell battery.

On the other hand, the 14.1" lasts 7.5 hours on the 9 cell battery, while the 15" lasts just barely 4.5 hours - yes, THREE hours difference!!! :-(

Hope this helps.

Hangfire, thank you!

mgp, no that's some other wedge :)
If I don't read forums while sleep-walking...

Thank you for the weight information MrBeta, yes the model is the 15" screen. It's sad that the battery life is excellent, but I guess I'll get used to it. The 9-cell battery doesn't add more than 160g to the weight though, I'll have to consider this
