ThinkVantage Active Protection System for Windows

#1 Post by ranjit » Tue Jan 30, 2007 2:46 am

Dear All,

Does ne1 have the ThinkVantage Active Protection System for Windows v1.41 to share with me? I accidently eased the program from my IBM T42?

Also, does ne1 have problems configuring the new v1.51? When I installed the program, the settings area was greyed out! I could not set the sensitivity and other options.

Cheers,
Ranjit

To reinstall the original APS from your hard drive, go to C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\HPROTECT\ and run SETUP.EXE.

Generally you must be logged on as Administrator to change the settings (unless you uncheck the box: Allow only users with Adminstrative privleges...).

Hi GomJabbar,

Thank you for your message.

Well, the version I have in C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\HPROTECT\ is version 1.23 and it works fine. I am able to set the sensitivity and other options. However, when I install the latest version1.51, I am not able to configure and all options are greyed out except the Suspend Now function! Why is this so? I am always signed in as Administrator.

Cheers,
Ranjit

The new version is for Vista. I have version 1.41 and it seems to be working fine in XP.

I read today that a fundamental reason for vendors to be late with Vista drivers is that they cannot get User Access Control right. That may be affecting this, but I am only speculating.

Hi JDHurst,

Thank you for your message.

Yes, I too had v1.41 in my laptop which was working fine with XP. Accidently, I eased this program as mentioned in my previous post. I wish to reinstall v1.41 again.

Could you send me the link or the downloaded file in a private message so that I can reinstall the software?

Cheers,
Ranjit

It appears that 1.41 is no longer available. I think my T41 is finished from a support perspective. ... JD Hurst

Hi JDHurst,

What do you mean by "my T41 is finished from a support perspective..."?

I cannot download the most recent XP Hard Drive Protection driver, I cannot download the most recent XP wireless NIC driver, and it appears that the IBM tools are now becoming Vista drivers to support the new OS.

So on one hand, I am very pleased that IBM is keeping up to date with drivers for Vista. But that means development for my old XP model is pretty much at an end.

It is very important to retain the drivers we download for future use. I have client machines with even older network cards, and I need prior versions of Access Connections to make them work.

Probably because something else wrong in your XP configuration.

I have APS v1.51 running here with XP on a T41 and a T43, with full access to all configuration options.

I just upgraded to HD Protection 1.51 (and EZEject 2.30, Power Driver 1.41, Presentation Director 2.56, and Video ....61116a along the way) and all works just fine. HD Protection 1.51 allows complete access to all features. I should have tried it before posting (apologies for that). ... JD Hurst

Does 1.51 work on XP or is it vista only?

I have a Thinkpad T43 with 1.41 currently installed. Used software installer to get the 1.51 version, and then when trying to install it tells me that my system doesn't support active protection.
