System Update Issues

#1 Post by mbaturo » Wed Jan 31, 2007 2:55 pm

My ThinkVantage System Update shows not all that are available to download on the Lenovo support site. It only shows about half the updates available. Tried upgrading to System Update 3.0 but still no luck. Anybody know anything about this issue?

What I do is download everything from the Lenovo site, execute the download to extract it's files, then run Software Installer to install the driver or software (in SI I uncheck box to: Retrieve latest information on the internet). Now Software Installer will correctly show all installed software. If you do not use Software Installer to install the software, it may not show up in Software Installer's installed software list (I believe the same is true of System Update, but I never use it).

One caveat: sometimes (but not normally) when you download from Lenovo and execute the file, the installation process is run to completion. In other words, it does not stop with just extracting the files to your hard drive. You need to check the readme file for the software/driver, to see if this might be the case. IIRC, in this situation you need to use Software Installer to download the file from the internet as it will not see the .exe file on your hard drive. Note that you do not have to use Software Installer to install the software/driver, but it may not show up in Software Installer's installed software list if you do not.
