T20 white shadowy screen marks

#1 Post by elephant » Wed Sep 15, 2004 3:00 am

I bought a T20 on Ebay a couple of months ago now and its been fine apart from its got 6 white shadowy screen marks that you can generally only see against a pale coloured screen image. I have searched this forum and the web generally and realise that the marks have probably been caused by pressure from the keyboard when the lid has been closed?

So – I suppose I now have a few questions and would really appreciate any advice:

1: I assume there is nothing I can now do about the marks apart from replace the screen – and I’m not sure I want to go to such expense, given the age of the machine? Just out of interest - what would this cost in the UK?

2: Will the marks get any worse – or will more appear?

3: If there is a likelihood of detioration – is there any steps I can take to stop this?
I wondered if I should leave the lid open a little, when the machine is at home, or in its case? Or – should I use some kind of cloth to place between the keys and the screen, and close it as normal?

And – I assume I need to be extremely careful how I travel with it –i.e. not pack it too tightly with other luggage/ papers etc?

Water probably went into the screen and dried up ---
It won't get any worse.
If it is an XGA screen, you should be able to find one on EBAY at a reasonable price, if necessary.
