ATI X300 using 767MB of System Memory!

#1 Post by JHaislet » Fri Feb 02, 2007 7:24 pm

I just upgraded my system from 1GB to 2GB of RAM.

In Vista, the amount of System Memory used as "HyperMemory" by the X300 went from 255MB (with 1GB of RAM) to 767MB (with 2GB of RAM).

While I have no complaints performance-wise, this seems pretty crazy and excessive. Does this mean I have probably a good 500MB+ of system ram locked up by "HyperMemory"? I'm using a single 1920x1200 display, and at most, this needs 256MB of texture memory to drive it well.

Does Vista allow the system to use part of that 767MB of HyperMemory for other stuff when the graphics aren't being taxed?

that's cool! man!!!

I am using T43 with 1.5G RAM

ATI X300(64MB->,256MB by Hyper)

After XP loaded,, the memory used is about 200 MB..

Does Vista allow the system to use part of that 767MB of HyperMemory for other stuff when the graphics aren't being taxed?
SO I think ATI will always leave the HyperMemory your OS until ATI needs it...

any way, I can't see any difference before and after I enable the hyperMemory. It works in silence.

hope you enjoy your Big Video RAM

How does vista run on the t43?

Is there any lag or studder? As soon as i get my t43, i want to load business ed. on it, but i'll definately need to pick up some more memory. I only have 512 :?

I like it. Vista actually runs pretty good on my T43.
Interestingly, it seems to have gotten a hair quicker due to the adaptive way it fills up your memory.

I guess the file system "learns" what you do the most on your computer and loads that stuff into ram.

Luckily I haven't found the need to reboot much (unlike with XP, which would slow to a crawl when it hadn't been rebooted in awhile).

Also, reboots are a little slow initially with Vista when the desktop comes up, especially with 2GB of ram, since it literally loads about a gig of stuff into ram.

Having a 7200rpm HDD helps a lot when booting up IMHO, but a 5400rpm should be more than enough while in Vista if you have a decent amount of ram.
