Ship Date?

Hey guys,

I just ordered a 2378DXU T42 with 1 GB of ram, 9 cell battery, and ultraBay slim li battery through the ThinkExpress program on 9/12. I've noticed the estimated ship dates for each part and by which everything will be shipped to be changing everyday (sometimes earlier, sometimes later).

My question is, how accurate are these ship dates? And do people usually get their laptops earlier or later than the estimated ship date they tell you? And if so, how much sooner or later? I guess I'm just anxious.

my ship date was originally august 24th, then became september 16, and is now october 8th.

Everyone I know that has ordered a Thinkpad (including me) has gotten it within 2 weeks of ordering. IBM has a bit of a reputation of not shipping things on time. I guess everyone I know has been lucky. I hope you are too. Enjoy the new machine.

Not that my whining is answering your question but I ordered my T42 a week ago. Availability at that point was 15 days. From there on out the shipping date has been bumped back every day =( Currently it says 10/14 but I fully expect that to change to 10/15 come tomorrow. Very frustrating.
I did call IBM yesterday and they told me that there is a shortage on parts for all Thinkpads with a 15" screen. Since your model has a 15" screen I wouldn't hold my breath.

Changed my order...Its now shipping tomorrow.

Needed it soon cause of certain circumstances.

Well, I ordered my Thinkpad on 27 August...the overall ship date kept slipping, first to 15 Sept, then into early Oct, finally to Oct 15. I called IBM and was told that there were delays due to the popularity of my model with students returning to college, but that the unit should be shipped somewhat earlier than 15 Oct.

Last Thursday, however, i received e-mail notification that my thinkpad (2379DXU) had shipped by two business day delivery. If today had been a business day, I would have received it today. Instead it is schedule to arrive at 10AM on Monday...so, based on my experience (assuming that the unit arrives on Monday), I'd say don't pay much attention to the stated ship dates.

Well, I never really received a ship date for my DXU, I ordered it about a week ago, and they told me, 3 weeks. I said, THREE WEEKS? Are you kidding.

Sure enough, on thursday it showed up. About oh, a week after ordering. Don't know much about it yet since it is sitting in my office and I am here not in my office, but we'll see.
