T43 blank screen unhibernating from mini dock
T43 blank screen unhibernating from mini dock
I'm having an intermittant problem when restoring from a hibernation state: I have a T43 with a minidock at work and an external DVI monitor. At the end of the day, I hibernate the computer, it shuts off etc, then I pack it up and take it home. When I un-hibernate the computer at home (no dock now), the screen is completely blank, and I'm forced to do a cold boot since I can't see anything on the screen. Has anyone else seen this problem?
Any hints would be appreciated, thanks.

As your initial post said that you are using an external monitor while docked you might try pressing the Fn+F7 sequence when you wake up the system at home. If you are using only the external monitor at work then the system may be confused as to which display is connected/active.
My daily-driver T23 is hibernated while still connected to the port replicator, removed and taken to work where it's connected to another port replicator and I have no problems. I've also hibernated when docked, removed the system and powered up un-docked without any issues. And I've gone the other way too; put the system in hibernate un-docked and then powered back up after it's connected to a port replicator. Note that I am not using any external monitor at home or work. I've also gone into the BIOS and enabled the "suspend/hibernate while docked" setting so you may want to check your T43's BIOS to see if that selection exists in your system. Mine is located under the Config/Power menu.
Another note: I always use the Fn+F12 sequence to hibernate the system and do not rely on closing the lid
There's another concurrent thread in the T60 forum about this issue:

Ray is correct. Doing the Fn+F7 sequence at home should work too.
When you hibernate the system at work, it is saving a "snap shot" of that configuration with all of it's peripherals. When you "un-hibernate" (is that a word ...
) the system is still looking for all of the devices connected to the dock, hence your display issue.
The cleanest way to avoid any issues is to undock and hibernate. Then when you power up at home, it is restoring to a similar config.
