T40 DVD-ROM drive loudness

#1 Post by anthax » Sun Feb 11, 2007 9:43 am

Hi. I'm wondering is there any way to make standard DVD-drive a bit less noisy. It feels like it's spinnig a hell lot faster than my LG DVD-RW drive in my desktop PC when playing DVD for example. My drive is probably Hitechi-LG drive, or that is what it says in sticker.

Right click on the desktop away from any icons and choose the "Properties" tab to get the Display Properties applet.

Pick "Screen saver" then "Power" at the bottom.

Pick the "Advanced Settings" tab right at the top.

Change CD ROM speed to "Silent" or "Normal"

The same option is available in the BIOS.

At boot, press F1. In the BIOS

Choose the "Config" option then select "Power". (You will have to scroll down to see this option)

Choose "Silent".

Try it out here before rebooting to see what I mean
