Office 2007 on ThinkPad T43p

#1 Post by bin.dong » Tue Feb 13, 2007 8:47 pm

I just installed office 2007 and the track point device won't work properly (it won't scroll down the scroll bar on Word). Does anyone have the same problem? But when I connect the USB mice, it just works.

Trackpoint scrolling is totally different than scroll wheel scrolling. I don't think it worked in any of the older versions of office either.

Works fine in Office 2003 on my T60.

If you go to the Ultranav TrackPoint settings and then the scrolling settings, choose "Auto Select" as the scrolling type. It doesn't fix the touchpad, but it's something.

I found the best way of using the trackpoint to scroll with the middle button was to set the middle button's use from neither (instead of scroll or zoom).

This means I can then use the middle button in Firefox and IE7 to open a new tab over a hyperlink and also scroll in any application with the middle button and the trackpoint.

I use Office 2007 too.

HTH :)

Does anyone already have a solution for the touchpad?

I only use the touchpad but it is very annoying that scrolling in word and outlook 2007 doesn´t work!

Thanks for the tip Vicky, I'll have to give that a try. I always use middle button click for new tabs in firefox on my other computers, but for whatever reason on my ThinkPad I just use the ctrl key (likely because my hands are already on the keyboard).

Using the "auto select" option for TrackPoint scrolling always seemed quite buggy when I had tried it in the past so I'd rather stay away from that.

I'm just so happy that the TrackPoint scrolling bug that I would always encounter in XP is gone. No matter what, eventually trackpoint scrolling would semi-break, to the point where the cursor would move while I was scrolling instead of staying stationary. It was quite annoying, but all is fixed now :)

Thank you for the tip. It's not as perfect as the middle scrolling on the browser or windows since the course would be moving anywhere on the screen on instead of being stationary. But hey, it works and thank you! =)

I tried the tip - but try as I might I just can't get used too the smooth scrolling.

The scrolling is broken for me in Outlook 2007 too - except for one peculiarity. In the email message pane, while I can't scroll up and down, it is possible to scroll left and right. Anyone else notice this?

It appears to be a problem with the Synaptics driver setup. for a solution of the problem see the following URL and be sure to read the comments in addition to the original post.

I agree. The trick works with Office 07 on my t43p, but the original scrolling feature is much nicer IMHO.

I always let System Update do the updating, but it does't pick it up(yet).
Do I need to uninstall something before installing a new driver manually?
