Dead T23 no Bios messages only green lights

#1 Post by DanV » Sat Sep 18, 2004 1:05 pm

Hello,

My T23 stopped booting up. I now only get the flash of the green lights, battery light and the fan starts and changes speeds (up and down). I can't get anything on the screen, even if I plug it into a monitor. The battery and power source are good. It was running fine and just died. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Your system board probably broke. My T40 exhibited the same symptoms when the system board died last March. IBM replaced the board and everything is more or less normal now.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

Dead system board is likely - but no RAM would do something similar. Make sure your DIMMs are seated properly.

May or may not be the issue- have you checked the little, yellow, round backup battery?

1) Change CMOS (RTC) battery.

2) Reseat RAM.

3) Reseat CPU (common failure in the T23 and T30 for the CPU to work itself out of the ZIF socket due to heat cycling!).

Report back.

How do you open the case of a T23

Ok, I took ever screw out of the bottom, but I still can't figure out how to open it to get at the motherboard. The memory SIMMS and battery are easy enough to get at, but where is the CPU and disk drive? I'm use to working on desktop machines - this one is a challenge!
