Upgrading Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG card to support WAP2?

#1 Post by dsi-ap » Sat Feb 17, 2007 9:43 am

Hi all,

New to the forum.
I am looking to get my Thinkpad T42 to work over the wireless network provided by my Belkin N1 Router.
Currently the encryption is set to WAP-PSK if I go WAP2 the wireless card is unble to connect.

Is there a driver update I can try to get WAP2 to work or is the 2200BG gone as far it can go and only support WAP + 54MB.

I would consider pearing the N1 router with a PCMCIA belkin N1 card to gain from all the benifits of WAP2 + 150-300MB transfer rates. Altough I rather stick to an internal card and not have anything pokcing out the side of the laptop.
If there is an ugrade for internal parts that would be an option.

Your advice much appreciated.

I have read this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=21109 and notice a driver update. No mention of wap2 capabilities I dont think.

It's WPA(2), not WAP(2).

2200BG supports WPA2. Just get new driver from Lenovo or Intel. If you use Windows to manage wireless connections, you need patch KB893357.

I believe this is a feature of Access Connections. When setting up a profile in Access Connections, you are given the choice of Security Type which includes WPA2. Of course when you use Access Connections, you have to install a compatible version Wireless Driver first. I have the Intel 2200BG with the latest Lenovo Wireless Driver and Access Connections. My 2200BG uses WPA2.

You can get the Wireless Driver and Access Connections from the following page.
1) Uninstall Access Connections.
2) Uninstall Wireless Driver software (from Add or Remove Programs or with Software Installer).
3) Install new Wireless Driver software.
4) Install new Access Connections.

Yes, WPA2 is supported; but you have to install an Intel patch...or as mentioned above; install the latest drivers from Lenovo.
