IBM will not answer *any* questions for me unless I uninstall SP2. They claim their laptops won't support SP2 properly. Now I am running SP2, and the single IBM glitch on my Laptop doesn't stop me at all. But IBM won't pay attention to it because of SP2. So I don't know why they would be selling them that way. ... Perhaps you should guide the support people you have been talking to.
Iinto their own site. http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... XBRD-XPSP2

Maybe this will help them in helping you. Seeing as they are giving installation instructions and how to guides. They don't really have much room to complain.

I have tried that. My vendor is a Gold IBM Partner and I am well-used to dealing with IBM and getting answers. I also am not saying SP2 doesn't work - I have it running successfully on a number of machines including my own two IBMS. But I have a specific problem with the paging file, and they will only deal with it if SP2 is uninstalled. I'll call my vendor tomorrow and see what they say. ... JDHurst

SP2 works just fine on our Thinkpads. IBM should be supporting SP2 seeing as it has been released for almost 6 weeks now.

Support people, including a supervisor, have told me they only have access to internal info, not the public web site.

think MS requires all computer makers to have Win'XP SP2 pre-installed onto all computers 90 days after RTM (Release To Manufacturers).

perpahs IBM will make SP2 pre-installed computers on/abt early-November ex factories, and arriving in retail stores in early-December (just in time for Christmas).

what do you think

Well, it seems to me that SP2 is perfectly compatible with my T41p

There have been numerous problems reported with USB devices (drives, cameras, MP3players) not working after upgrading to SP2. Apparently some of the write-to-disk settings were changed in SP2 and it's got people pulling their hair out around the world!

Way to go Bill!!!

I have everything working completely with SP2 except:

1. The newest Software Installer (a known issue and purely IBM), and
2. The paging file does retain settings on my T41 (multiple re-images).

I finally got IBM's ear on the phone this week. They took detailed notes, gave me a case number and promised to get back to me. I can live just fine with this minor issue, I just would like it fixed. ... JDHurst

I got the IBM 11 a/b/g wireless driver before they removed it a while back. They put it back out with the same version, a different file size and a note about the installer. I installed this new driver, and now the new software installer works.

Paging file not yet resolved and IBM says they cannot replicate. I'll keep at it.
