My 2373CYU Has Left Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong via 2 Day UPS!

#1 Post by Conmee » Thu May 20, 2004 3:21 pm

Friends,

I'm not here to start a war of words, boast about my student/Visa/Mastercard/Discover/MickeyMouseClub 50% off retail discounts, or brag about all the great accessories IBM included for the privilege of serving me... lol ;)

BUT... I thought everyone would be interested to know that my ThinkPad is ON ITS WAY!!! :D I've got the UPS tracking number to prove it. Also, I noticed it was part of a bulk shipment that included 77 other ThinkPads.

So I'm thinking that IBM has quoted the 4-6 week wait time in order to be able to "over-deliver" on the customer satisfaction end. Keep expectations low, then blow them away kinda strategy.

Anyhow, I should receive my new machine on Monday. I will give a full report on the T42 and the 15" SXGA+ screen upon arrival.

Daniel.

3 Year Warranty and Then Some....

#3 Post by Conmee » Thu May 20, 2004 3:31 pm

Another interesting tidbit... I checked out the warranty info for my machine (The IBM order status screen shows my machine's Serial No.), and it says that the machine is in warranty, and that it is good through 08-09-2007... that's a little more than three years. Nothing like having an additional 2-3 months of warranty.... :)

MINE TOO!!! my T41p is on its way from Kowloon, I think it will arrive tomorrow. I have the UPS tracking and am watching, mine is coming with 112 others it looks like. Recieved part of my order today, the AC/DC combo and the standard battery I ordered as extras. I am excited. When did you order yours Conmee?

I will keep everyone posted on what I think about it.

(not a T42 I know but I still have the right to be excited)

When I clicked on the tracking number, it took me to the UPS site, and it showed my individual tracking number, and next to it, you can click on details for the entire shipment... I can see where each of the other 77 units are going (all over the US btw), and then I can click on my tracking number and see the progress of mine specifically.

I called IBM after selecting "Get A Quote" online just for the hell of it, to see if I could argue for any discounts, etc. lol. That was on Friday, May 14th at 11am. If I receive it tomorrow, that would be 7 days... WOW. Even a Monday delivery is fantastic news. :)

They tend to ship things as soon as they have it made. I got my T41p in 4 days (ordered Tues, arrived Fri), even though at the time the website said 2-4 weeks, and it was in Dec, a holiday period.

Enjoy your TP, it is a great one.

Very exciting news. [censored], leaving for the West Coast tomorrow. Even if mine comes earlier than Bill quoted, I won't even be at home to take full advantage of it... it would've been sweet to play with it on vacation.

Looks like my (and others') ThinkPads landed in Anchorage, 9:44pm EST on May 20. So unless it gets from Anchorage to Michigan overnight and onto a delivery truck, I'll probably get it on Monday. Can't wait!

This will be a very long weekend indeed. lol :)

Daniel,

That's FANTASTIC! The 2373-CYU is also the model I'm looking for but as I've mentioned in other posts I'm used to 1600x1200 15" LCDs but don't necessarily enjoy staring at them for long periods of time. But I'm a bit apprehensive about the changes waiting for me in a 1400x1050 15" LCD. If you are at all able, please kindly report back about your experience with the CYU, the LCD, the 5400 HD performance, the build quality (hopefully adhering to the same standards of previous 14" T series machines) and pictures that convey a thousand words. :D

Regards,
Fox

P.S. I noticed in your signature that you state your CYU has 1GB of RAM, did you order an additional 512 MB?

and i have five of those T41p's coming from HK..
in two of those shipments..

this is the usual method..
even ground will get next day delivery, usually..
they will, after leaving louisville, have a different tracking number so unless you can get that new # (impossible) the thinkpad will arrive before you expect it..

i AM pleased that the T42's are shipping.. :D

enjoy your new thinkpad..

I can't imagine anyone who ordered in the first week having to wait until mid/end of June. My original ship date was June 16th, and I should get it today (just checked UPS and saw 'arrival scan' while getting ready for work... it's in MI!!!). Like a kid on Christmas... now I just have to see "Out for delivery" and I'm coming home early for lunch... lol

I added an additional 512MB RAM even though the HMM indicates that the 2373CYU comes with 1GB (it doesn't).

Looks like Christmas is coming early to folks at Thinkpads.com forums.

Well, I guess it will be a long loooonnnnggg weekend for many of us. One of the few times you want the weekend to go by fast. Mine has got hung up in Louisville, KY, so I assume unless it gets all the way from there to my doorstep today, I will inevitably have to wait till monday :( :( :(

Anyway, until then I will peruse this site and mope.

That's great news, everyone-- has anyone with a UXGA model on order noticed that it shipped?

Thanks - Joe

Any 2378-EXU's shipped yet?

#23 Post by akeskira » Fri May 21, 2004 9:53 am

I ordered two 2378-EXU Express Open Bay models, as the price was excellent and I rather buy memory and HD off the internet anyways to avoid IBM's high markups. I'm especially happy to avoid the M$ tax :D

Has any of the lucky you with tracking numbers ordered the EXU model? My estimated shipping date is 6/3.

I've ordered two of the open bays (among others) and they still show ship of 6/3 - but not expecting to actually get them.. assuming those models were for internal consumption.

My system just arrived! Will give more feedback on SXGA+ 15" when I have time... One noticeable change... the plastic around Access IBM and volume/power buttons is no longer shiny plastic, which fixes the problem of the ThinkLight reflecting off the keyboard...

Daniel.

This will be a fun weekend indeed... that's 7 days from order to delivery.. not bad.

Daniel.

My ThinkLight is white... :) Unfortunately, I have ONE stuck pixel (green) that shows up. Ran PC Doctor test and at least it's only one.. it is in the upper right quadrant, right around "Paris" on the default wallpaper at 1400x1050... lol...

SXGA+ looks REALLY good. Easy to read, clear text, excellent graphics... so far. Color and brightness and contrast are definitely superior to the 1400x1050 T40p LCD. Nothing washed out, simply fantastic. I will run some benchmarks, etc, play some games, and give more feedback. Simply an amazing system so far.
