What's the cheapest way to return my T42 within 30 days

#1 Post by xth » Tue Sep 21, 2004 3:01 pm

Hi:

I just got my new T42 23733XU, it looks good; however, I found 2 dead pixels :(
One is a dead black spot on the right close to the center :(, the other is more like a grey blurred spot on the bottom right...
Basically, after reading many posts about the unavoidable dead-pixel issue, I might consider just keep it.

However, I'd like to know if I decided to return it and try to get another one within the 30 days return policy:
(1) What's the cheapest way to return it? and how much usually?!
(2) Will I be able to get them resent me another one (i.e. replacement), or I'll have to re-order it and wait for the shipment again?!

Just want to get more information before I make my decision, thanks! :)

Xth

If it bothers you, return it. IBM will pick it up at their expense and, if you order a new one, they will put you at the front of the list. They will ship your replacement out after they receive the first one back. It may take a couple of weeks to get the replacement to you. If you want the replacement "cross-shipped", they will bill your credit card again and credit you back when the first computer is received by them.

Just to know more, I can just call IBM for pick up, and ask for a replacement?! Cause I read from other posts that I'll have to pay for the shipment for returns, so I'm not sure...

Thanks a lot,

Don't think so... unless there is a problem with the unit (and small # of dead pixels doesn't count), you pay. UPS Ground should be the cheapest, you can do it at Kinkos,

I returned two last year (one for exchange for a bad pixel and one for a refund 'cos it had some major problems that telephone tech support just couldn't fix) and didn't have to pay return shipping on either.

I just returned my T42 today, and I had to pay for my own shipping. I had problems with my 2200bg wireless cards and IBM support had no solution. When calling in to setup the RMA, the guy on the phone asked for a case support #, which I didn't have because the tech I talked to didn't bother to give me it. I probably could have had them pick it up if I complained further, but I didn't care to save a few bucks. So you may or may not have pay for shipping.

Fedex is usually cheaper than UPS, if you choose to pay for shipping back.

Actually, I misspoke, it's Kinkos/Fedex (not Kinkos/UPS) :-) .... Yes, if there is a technical problem with Case # open, they will pay the shipping if you give them the #.

Return it if you aren't completely satisfied and order another one. Especially if the pixel is in the middle of the screen and very obvious and it bothers you.

I ordered from a place that had a 15% restocking fee and didn't want to incur that fee to send my machine (stuck red & partially stuck blue pixels in lower LH quadrant) and it bothered me for a long time.

I can deal with a dead pixel outside the centers of the screen on a notebook, but I really hate stuck pixels.
