T42 : XP running very stop-and-start

#1 Post by wonderdogger » Fri Mar 02, 2007 7:34 pm

I just recently defragmented by harddrive using Diskeeper and the system takes a long time to boot up and even longer to shutdown and often stops and starts when moving the mouse on the desktop. This has never happened before.

Just prior to this, the laptop would crash on startup with the message "Unmountable Boot Volume". Microsoft suggests using chkdsk /r in recovery mode to fix which I did successfully (although chkdsk /r did not terminate before I rebooted)

Sounds like I have harddrive issues? Any way to definitively determine this and resolve the problem?

Let chkdsk work to completion - no matter how long it takes.
