T43p FireGl v3200 driver problem

#1 Post by spirit82 » Sat Mar 03, 2007 1:34 pm

I recently got myself a T43p and as I normally do tried to install all the newest drivers.

When I tried to intall the ATI Catalyst drivers for the ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 graphics card I got an error message, that told me that I didn't have the correct hard- and software installed...

I have tried multiple versions of the drivers, even older ones. The only ones that worked were direct form Lenovo, but they caused the computer to crash when shutting down :(

How and where can I intall the newest drivers?

I am planning on using the computer for gaming as well, any recommendations on drivers and finetuning is greatly appreciated..

Generally speaking, you need to uninstall your existing video card driver and reboot before you can install a new driver or update the existing driver. For ATI you can unstall the ATI drivers and software from Windows Add or Remove Programs.

I don't think Catalyst driver works for FireGL cards. You can try the ATI one: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/fireglv-xp.html.

By the way, why not use software installer to automatically install the IBM version? Or you can go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58597 for manual download and install.
Current: T43P-2687D5U: P-M 2G, 2G RAM, FireGL V3200 128M, 80G 5400 RPM(Will be 100G 7K100 when 2010 gone!), 15' UXGA, Multi Burner, Intel A/B/G, Bluetooth, 9 Cell, Fingerprint Reader, WinXP Pro
Previous: 390E, 600E, T23, X30, T40 ......

You can give the Omega driver a try. I am running it right now on my T41P and it seems to be working just fine.

I tried the newest driver from ATI, but this was the one, that came up with en error message, that I didn't have the right hardware installed to continue installing the driver.

Hence I tried the "original" from Lenovo. But this caused the computer to crash when shutting down and hence try to start up after a critical error afterwards...

I still haven't tried the Omega drivers. I can't find any designed for the FireGl V3200 card, only the Radeons. Do you just use these?

When I install drivers on the desktop at home I normally don't have to uninstall the old driver first, wouldn't it be the same in this case?

Btw. thx for all the inputs :)

I guess it depends upon the driver update you are using. When I updated the ATI driver for my T42, the readme file specifically said to uninstall the existing driver first...

"Installation instructions
---------------------------------
Note: Uninstall the ATI display driver before installing new drivers.
See uninstallation instructions section below."

Looking at the readme file for your driver, I see no such instructions. CoolDragon's suggestion of using Software Installer to install your driver seems like a good idea to me.
