T42 LCD Replacement...now small problem
T42 LCD Replacement...now small problem
I recently changed the LCD screen on my T42. The old screen was the default 1024X768 screen. I replaced it with a SXGA screen. I switched out the cable and the inverter card too. I now have a small problem. The screen flickers, not from the refresh rate type of flicker but like losing video signal. I think I may have caused a short somewhere cause when the screen goes blank I can squeeze the left side of the palm rest and the video appears again. I took everything apart and put it back together but still have the same problems.
Anyone with any hints on how to fix this?
TIA...

No, that is not the problem. Check the small switch which turns off the LCD panel when you close the LCD lid. The switch is a small button at the back left side of the keyboard bezel. Sometimes the plastic button does not move freely and may be in a semi-depressed position so that minimal movement turns off the screen. Easy test is to remove the keyboard bezel and see if that solves the problem.At0mAng wrote:The video card is a radeon 7500 32megs would that cause any problems with a different panel?
If that's not the problem, then the culprit is either the LCD screen, the LCD cable, the connection from the cable to the motherboard, or the connection from the cable to the LCD screen.
Thanks for the tip. I tried that and it still flashes. I reconnceted everything numerous times and I hope it is not the LCD. I purchased both new so maybe I can track it down to something else. My friend is coming over with his T4X so I can test some more.EOMtp wrote:No, that is not the problem. Check the small switch which turns off the LCD panel when you close the LCD lid. Perhaps the problem is not that the screen is turning off but rather that the inverter is turning off or not "feeding" the backlight tube. That may mean that you may have a problem with the 2-pin inverter connector or the inverter.
When the backlight is off but the screen is still "on", you can still see items on the screen very faintly if you look at the screen in a moderate-to-dimly lit room. Determine if that is the case.
Good luck!
