gv3.sys crashs

#1 Post by UCI2CI » Wed Sep 22, 2004 3:49 am

I keep getting a blue screen and I see that "gv3.sys" is involved in the crash. I have an IBM T42, with windows xp sp2. the problem started before i installed sp2, but it seems to have gotten worse ever since the install. does anyone else get this error. It seems to happen mostly when i run intensive apps, like doom 3, or sometimes for no reason. Its really anoying, because i loose all my work. Can you guys help me diagnose this?

thank you in advance

update

#2 Post by UCI2CI » Wed Sep 22, 2004 5:04 am

and why is gv3.sys still on my machine. I thought it was replaced by intelppm.sys in SP2. I just checked and and gv3.sys is loaded in memory, but intelppm.sys in not. the intelppm.sys file is not even on my system! I didnt replace any files after installing sp2. whats even more strange is that the file gv3.sys is located only in c:\drivers\others, and c:\ibmtools\drivers\. It is not present in my Windows folder. this is some strange stuff. HELP!

ok, i made a big mistake

disregard my last comments. gv3.sys and intelppm.sys are both present on my system. and in the windows driver forlder where they should be. Last time i searched for the files, i forgot to check mark the "search system forlder" option. (doh!). But, here is the thing, when i checked with the Sytem Information tool, gv3.sys was started and running, but intelppm.sys was not running. So, i went to the ibm software installer program and uninstalled the gv3 drivers. So, gv3.sys is still on my system but atleast its not running, but intelppm.sys is running instead. Im not sure if this is temporary thing, or what, but ill keep you guys posted. Oh and i figured out how i can recreate the crash: i just run Doom 3 now for 15 min, and it does it. (Didn't use to do it before)

check your Processor driver in device manager

check Driver Detail of Processor Properties in device Manager.
If Driver Detail show gv3.sys, click update and make sure Intelppm.sys will place to driver.

I had similar problem,
(which B.S.O.D with error module gv3.sys)
I replace Processor Driver from Device manager,

OK I do not have SP2 yet but when I check Device Manager>Processor>Driver Details I see I have gv3.sys.

When I click Update Driver>Option Install the software automatically>(My computer access the Internet and I get "Cannot Continue the Hardware Update Wizard. The Wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed" i.e gv3.sys

The only way I can change is if I click Update Driver>Install from a list or specific location (Advance) >Don't search. I will choose the driver to install>and I get processor.sys.

There is no intelppm.sys on my T41p computer .

Once I install the processor.sys if I click Update wizard I get the Intel gv3.sys back again.

So my first question is where do you get the intelppm.sys?

And second question is to people with SP2 - can you confirm what you have installed for your processor?

Thanks

Intelppm.sys

Intelppm.sys came with Windows XP service pack2.
when you installed from SP2 Slipstreaming CD,
Pentium M Processor driver will Intelppm.sys installed.

If you do not installed Windows XP SP2, I think you stick with gv3.sys
for pentium M Processor.

My Thinkpad T41p's Processor appear in Device manager by "Interl (R) Pentium(R) M Processor 1700MHz "
